Airlines Tickets

6485215057 e103df4b19 Airlines Tickets Airlines have size and weight restrictions for luggage and charge more for over-weight or additional bags. Body weight does not factor YET. Weight and balance are critical in aviation. Should all passengers be penalized by paying more for airline tickets? Or should airlines just charge by weight? Your thoughts. From what I can tell… Heck, I'd happily pay twice as much for my ticket if I could get twice as much room to sit. On another note, my luggage is very light. I think people with carry-ons the size of a refrigerator should be charged more.

  1. Valen Lowell Said,

um airlines already do this. . . . Their reasoning being is they charge for two seats for overweight ticket-holders.

  2. A. X1 Said,

It's obvious what your take on the matter is.

I think the only time someone should have to pay more for airline tickets is if they're so massive they need two seats. I feel bad saying this because a lot of times it's very hard for a person to get their weight under control. But, if they're taking two seats, they're taking two seats.

    I need a vacation.

Oh noooo. Everyone in America will be on a diet. They will lose money. (hee hee)

  4. J. Terrence Said,

No, they charge by seat. If you take up two seats, then yes, you should pay more. But if they charge by weight, then the plane will be full of screaming kids, and I'll be driving – just to avoid the kids.

  5. Grace Durham Said,

The reason airlines have size and weight resitrictions on bags is because the luggage is loaded by people (baggage handlers). Over weight luggage can cause injuries to the handlers as they load and unload the plane. Over sized luggage is more difficult to pack in the luggage hold.

Body weight is not a factor because weight and balance is determined by averages. On most large planes, the weight of passengers does not effect wt and balance that much. Wt and bal is more of a concern on small aircraft than it is on large ones.

Passengers should only have to pay more for a ticket if they need two seats to accommodate them. As long as a passenger can fit into one seat, they should only be charged for one seat.

  6. Andy Hall Said,

No matter what your opinion on overweight passengers is, this would be impossible to enforce. Since most tickets are bought online these days, how would the airline be able to calculate the fare at the time of purchase? Would everyone have to get weighed at check-in to see if they owed extra fare? How would they process on-the-spot refunds for passengers who went on a diet since they bought the tickets? It's a pretty far-fetched idea. . .

For what it's worth, the few extra pounds that most of us are carrying cost the airlines a lot more than the one or two obese passengers you might find on a flight. The average American is overweight but not obese— say they are carrying 15 extra pounds. One obese person may carry 150 extra pounds. Even if only a third of the passengers on a flight are a little out of shape, that is still around 60 people (on a big plane, not talking commuter jets here) at 15 pounds each, or 750 pounds. You would need 6 really obese people to reach the same overage, and it is a LOT more common to see a flight where most folks are a little heavy than to see a fight with 6 obese folks on it.

  7. Sunna XXX Said,

yep what the guy above said. . . although I have sat next to overweight people who didn't buy that extra seat.
